ReStore volunteers help in all areas of the operation of the ReStore. Whether you prefer to organize the items we have for sale or help customers find their new treasure, we need your help! Looking for volunteers to help with cleaning/organizing, taking in donations, carrying out purchases, running the cash register, and just being a friendly face to greet customers. We have jobs for all skill levels! Regular shifts or periodic volunteering is available!
ReStore Pick up and Delivery
Help with our Wednesday donation pick up and purchase delivery! Must be able to lift and carry furniture, including sofas and other large items with a second person. No driving experience required. We do pick ups every Wednesday, you can help every week or even once in awhile. Call the ReStore for additional details or to sign up for this vital role!
Site Hosts and Hostesses are such an important part of our volunteer base! This person is present at the work site on build days (generally Tuesdays and Thursdays). They greet the construction volunteers and any contractors as they arrive on site and assist in setting up snack and lunch after it is delivered. During the summer, the site hostess makes sure the volunteers have water to drink to keep them hydrated.
Several times throughout the year we have special events, including the Bowl-A-Thon in February, Re-Claim for a Cause in June, and the annual Fruitcake Bake in November. It takes volunteers to do all of these things. These are often some of the most fun events we do throughout the year and we would love to have you be a part of them!
Home Preservation is a relatively new program for Door County Habitat for Humanity. We do critical repairs to already existing homes. Volunteering for A Home Preservation project is what we like to call a “vacation” volunteer opportunity, since the projects take place in a much smaller time frame. Possible volunteer opportunities include:
Food Preparers and Donors
- Construction of a handicap accessible ramp
- Interior handicap accessibility
- House safety concerns (uneven floors, trim in disrepair, any unsafe conditions).
Do you like to cook or bake? We have a job for you! We want to make sure our volunteers are receiving proper nourishment while they are on our work sites. We generally like to serve a morning snack and a noon lunch. This is a great way for people to take part in the Habitat mission without doing construction work – and I can guarantee that it is the favorite part of most of the construction volunteers’ day!
Home Preservation Project Leader
These volunteer(s) go to potential Home Preservation Project homes and do the initial inspection and estimate, discussing the scope of the project with the homeowner. Estimates are generated to allow completion of the application review. This volunteer also identifies volunteer labor needs and length of project and either leads the project or appoints another volunteer leader. Training is available, but experience with home repair construction is helpful.
Deconstruction Project Leader
These volunteer(s) inspect potential deconstruction projects and determine what materials are salvageable as well as what the volunteer labor and tool needs would be to complete the project. The leader then coordinates timing of the project with the homeowner and Door County Habitat for Humanity volunteer coordinator to allow for volunteer recruitment. Training is available, experience with basic home construction is helpful.
