Donate to RAMP UP Door County to meet critical need!

Ramp Up Door County.jpeg

The first Ramp Up Door County aluminum ramp was installed March 3, 2022 by Habitat volunteers  in Forestville Wi. This installation and ramp lease program was made possible by the generosity of  100+ Women Who Care Door County and  101 Mobility of Appleton.

In this installation, the resident  was recently diagnosed with Parkinsons  and will use an electric wheelchair.  The 100 year old house had steps at every entrance.. Walking is difficult and steps are not practical or safe. This Habitat leased ramp provides safe mobility for this Door County resident.

Ramp Volunteers install 1st ramp.jpegThe Ramp Up Door County program enabled Habitat volunteers to install the ramp in the winter in just one day. Typical wood ramps require in ground foundations that are impossible in the winter and require concrete curing and construction time - usually over a week. A wood ramp would be delayed until the ground is no longer frozen - months away - with the resident trapped inside. Per code and engineering structure, Ramp Up Door County aluminum ramps can sit on the ground. Snow clearing and installation were completed in less than one day.

The Ramp Up Door County aluminum ramp is more expensive than wood, but allows the ramp to be installed quickly, during winter conditions, and later reused at another location. The first ramp was funded by generous 100+ Women Who Care Door County grant and 101 Mobility of Appleton discounts.

One is not enough!  We need to purchase a second ramp so we can help the next family in need quickly.  Each ramp is nearly $10,000 and will be leasable through this program for years to come.

Please consider a donation to Door County Habitat for this critical need served by Ramp Up Door County.

Sarah Elizabeth Wright - Door County Habitat Legacy Philanthropist

On October 12, 2017, Sarah Elizabeth Wright said her goodbyes and peacefully transitioned from our world to the next following a brief illness. With her usual sense of humor and a bit of impatience, some of her last words were, "what is taking so long? I am ready."

Sarah was born on May 9, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois. She came to Door County in the early 50's with friends and purchased a shop in her adopted and beloved Ephraim, "the pearl of the peninsula". Sarah was a sports enthusiast, college field hockey player, and loyal Packers fan.  She loved to play and watch golf, ski, traveled extensively, and did daily crossword puzzles. She, and her two best friends - Mary 'Bibs' McAghon, and Marge Binder were Peninsula Music Festival patrons for many years.

Sarah, Bibs and Marge were three amigos, self professed 'unclaimed treasures', who lived long lives and enjoyed their adventures together with gusto. They loved entertaining and being social with young and old alike. Sarah had a great smile and laugh and loved a good joke.

Sarah was a quiet philanthropist who gave not only to many charities, but found ways to support and help individuals with her resources. She helped support educational pursuits for women locally, and if she knew of a need, she would fill it.

Recognizing the value of Habitat’s mission, local focus, and importance of a hand up to home ownership, Sarah supported Door County Habitat for Humanity with donations when she was alive.  In her estate plans she included a gift to Door County Habitat for Humanity from her estate. Sarah defined her legacy through planned giving.

Her impact lives on with her donation. Door County Habitat is grateful for her foresight, kindness, and generosity.

You can follow Sarah's example with your own Legacy Gift.  As you are making estate plans, please include Door County Habitat for Humanity.  Legacy Giving adds another element to your individual giving, adds another revenue source to organizations that help secure their fiscal stability, builds an endowment to provide an ongoing source of income, and is an opportunity for a truly impactful gift.

Sarah_Elizabeth_Wright_planned_giving-a.jpgMany donors do not have the resources to give major gifts on a regular basis, but can make a more significant one time gift by using other types of assets and estate planning. No amount is too small to have an impact and enable affordable home ownership.

If you want to make a difference and establish your own legacy, please contact Lori Allen, Executive Director, LoriAllen@DoorHabitat.org,
920-743-2869 (ext 106).
