11/5/2021: 100+ Women Who Care Selects Three Fall Recipients, The Pulse The 100+ Women Who Care of Door County (100+WWC) giving circle met at Egg Harbor’s Kress Pavilion in October to recognize and award grants to Peninsula Preschool, Door County Habitat for Humanity, and the Washington Island Community Health Program. Members listened to presentations about the organizations, then voted to select the honorees. Door County Habitat for Humanity received the main award of $11,250 for its new Rent-a-Ramp program to keep people with mobility issues in their homes.

Members listened to presentations about the organizations, then voted to select the honorees.

The 100+ Women Who Care of Door County (100+WWC) giving circle met at the Kress Pavillion in October to recognize and award grants to local nonprofits. Three nonprofits - Peninsula Preschool, DC Habitat for Humanity, and the Washington Island Community Health Program, shared information on their organization. Door County Habitat for Humanity will receive the Main Award of $11,250 for a new 'Rent A Ramp' program to keep people in need with mobility issues in their homes. Lori Allen, Executive Director, DC Habitat for Humanity affirmed: “Door County Habitat will purchase two portable accessibility ramps that can be used to assist individuals to Age in Place, allowing them to remain in their own homes.  We will partner with the Door County Aging Coalition to promote the Ramp Up Door County Initiative.”  DeAnn Umland, 100+WWC member and DC Habitat Board President, added “Being a part of 100+ Women allows me to connect with many like-minded people in the Door County non profit community.  This diverse group is focused on education while making a difference that we can all feel."

It is not her home yet, but you will find Melissa Krueger putting in plenty of work on her new home thanks to Door County Habitat for Humanity and the Door County Housing Partnership. Krueger and her four children were chosen as the future homeowner for one of the two homes currently under construction in Sturgeon Bay.

Door County Habitat for Humanity and the Door County Housing Partnership are working together to build two new homes in 2021. The first future homeowner in this partnership,  Melissa Krueger, has signed the partnership agreement. The collaboration between the Door County Housing Partnership and Door County Habitat for Humanity has been developing for the last two years. The two organizations are collaborating with the current home builds by Door County Habitat for Humanity on land within the Door County Housing Partnership trust. Because of the structure of the Door County Housing Partnership’s trust, the homes being built will be affordable now and remain affordable in the future.

Adopt-a-Soldier completes roof project Your generosity may have helped a World War II veteran in Sturgeon Bay get a new roof this summer. Adopt-a-Soldier Door County recently wrapped up the project after having already replaced a sewer drain and water main there for the 7th Street home. They also teamed up with Door County Habitat for Humanity, who repaired the veteran’s sidewalks. Adopt a Soldier Door County Founder Nancy Hutchinson and the organization’s committee was eager to help him out with a new roof as well.
