Door County Habitat for Humanity is celebrating its 30th anniversary and the construction of its 49th new home build with an open house on Wednesday.

Construction on the house, located at 864 Cherry Court in Sturgeon Bay, began on May 18 and is expected to be complete in November.

The open house will run from 2 to 5 p.m. and show off the home that is 1,200 square feet, with three bedrooms, two baths and a two-car attached garage.

Abby Newman, second from left, poses in front of a new Habitat for Humanity home that is being built for her in Sturgeon Bay. Also pictured, from left, are Jimmy Kaplan, Jacinda Duffin and Laurie Flanagan, with Paul Zeller and David Diller in background installing siding.

It will belong to Abigail Newman. “Habitat has allowed the purchase of a home that would have otherwise been unavailable to me and my son," she said in a press release. "Having a solid, stable place to call home is incredibly healing.”

The latest Habitat House is being built in conjunction with Door County Housing Partnership (DCHP) and will remain an affordable house forever. Volunteers work every Tuesday and Thursday with a dozen or more volunteers each work day. The 35 different volunteers will donate approximately 50 work days and 3,100 volunteer-hours to complete this home.
